Central Park

You may recognize this famous landmark from the many movies set in New York City. Spend some time exploring the 778 acres of park, which opened in 1857. Take a selfie on the Great Lawn where all the big rock concerts take place. Some of the highlights include: the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, Bethesda Terrace and fountain, Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields, the Dairy, the 59th Street Pond, and so many other places. Keep a look out for the famous sculptures in Central Park like Cleopatra’s Needle, Balto and Alice in Wonderland. There are plenty of spots where you can be active in Central Park: walking tracks (a particularly nice one is around the Onassis Reservoir), bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks, and the historic Carousel. When you are worn out from all the rushing around, take some time for a picnic in the park! There are also restaurants located within the park: Tavern on the Green and the Boathouse. If you are in town during the summer, get tickets for Shakespeare in the Park where you will see some of your favorite actors on stage in an open-air theater.
